Friday Intel: Clemson Zeroes In on Two Pivotal Four-Star Defensive Line Targets as Tigers Intensify Recruiting Push Ahead of Summer Visits

As the summer recruiting calendar heats up, the Clemson Tigers are intensifying efforts to solidify their 2025 class, particularly along the defensive line. With a long-standing tradition of developing elite defensive talent, the Tigers are now focused on two pivotal four-star targets—both of whom could be foundational pieces in the trenches for years to come.

Sources close to the program tell Tiger Sports Daily that Clemson’s staff has zeroed in on four-star defensive linemen Malik Thomas (Warner Robins, GA) and Elijah Grant (Charlotte, NC) as top priorities. With summer official visits fast approaching, both prospects are expected to be on campus in June—setting the stage for a critical stretch in their recruitment.

Malik Thomas: Georgia Disruptor in the Trenches

Thomas, a 6-foot-4, 270-pound lineman out of Warner Robins High School, has rapidly ascended recruiting boards thanks to his explosive first step and ability to wreak havoc in opposing backfields. He’s currently ranked No. 114 nationally and the No. 10 defensive lineman in the 2025 cycle, according to 247Sports Composite rankings.

Clemson defensive tackles coach Nick Eason has been personally leading the recruitment, forging a strong connection with Thomas and his family. Eason’s NFL background and player development reputation have made a notable impression.

“Coach Eason keeps it real with me,” Thomas told Tiger Sports Daily earlier this month. “He’s not promising anything—just an opportunity to come in, work, and grow as a player and a man. That stands out.”

Georgia and Alabama remain firmly in the mix for Thomas, but Clemson has made up significant ground this spring, especially after a strong unofficial visit in April. Thomas is scheduled for an official visit to Clemson on June 7th. A commitment could follow later in the summer if the Tigers continue to build momentum.

Elijah Grant: Versatile Edge with Rising Stock

Meanwhile, Elijah Grant has emerged as one of the most sought-after edge rushers in the Carolinas. The 6-foot-5, 245-pound standout from Providence Day School is being courted by several top programs, including North Carolina, South Carolina, and Penn State. But Clemson’s recent push has put them firmly in the driver’s seat.

Grant’s versatility—he can play with his hand in the dirt or stand up as an outside linebacker—has made him a top fit in Clemson’s hybrid front. Defensive ends coach Lemanski Hall has been spearheading the Tigers’ pursuit, making multiple visits to Charlotte and building what sources describe as a “trust-based” relationship with Grant’s camp.

“I’ve always followed Clemson,” Grant said in a recent interview. “They’ve had dogs on the D-line, and that’s what I want to be a part of. I like how they develop their guys, and Coach Hall and Coach Swinney have made me feel like a priority.”

Grant is also slated for a June official visit, and insiders believe Clemson has a legitimate shot to land him—especially if the visit goes as planned. With the Tigers’ edge depth set to take a hit from graduation and NFL declarations, immediate playing time is also part of the pitch.

Tigers Turning Up the Heat

Clemson currently holds six commitments in its 2025 class, including four-star linebacker Tyshawn Daniels and defensive back Marcus Reid. But the coaching staff is now focused on beefing up the defensive line group, which has yet to secure a pledge. That’s where Thomas and Grant come in.

The Tigers are expected to host over 20 prospects for official visits in June, with several key defensive linemen among them. The staff’s goal is clear: secure at least two top-150 D-line commitments by July to establish a foundation for the defensive front.

“They know how important the trenches are in the ACC and beyond,” one source familiar with Clemson’s recruiting strategy said. “These two guys [Thomas and Grant] are top of the board, and they’re pushing hard. The visits could be the tipping point.”

Looking Ahead

With summer visits looming, Clemson’s push for Thomas and Grant underscores the urgency within the program. Both prospects fill critical positional needs and fit the Tigers’ culture and scheme. As of now, Clemson is in a strong position for each, but closing the deal will require precision and persistence.

June will be a defining month—not just for these two recruits, but for Clemson’s overall 2025 class trajectory. Expect the Tigers to continue pressing their advantage as the countdown to summer decision season begins.
